Dr. Richardson is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California and Cornell University Medical College in New York City where his medical training included clinical rotations at The New York Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  During the summers of medical school, he worked as a senior design engineer on the Space Shuttle for Rockwell International in Downey, California. After an internship in pathology at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, he completed his training in general surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee and at the University of California, Davis-East Bay Medical Center in Oakland, California.  Dr. Richardson also served as a surgical research fellow in the Division of Surgical Immunology at Cornell University Medical College and as a staff surgeon at the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research (U.S. Army Burn Center).  He is the author of numerous articles and chapters for medical journals and textbooks and has been presented with an F.W. Blaisdell award for excellence in surgical research.

Dr. Richardson is the medical director and chief surgeon of The Breast Care Center, the first practice in the region devoted exclusively to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and other breast-related disorders.  Before founding The Breast Care Center in 2003, he was a partner in General Surgery Associates of Huntsville, a practice that he started in 1992.  He currently serves as a staff surgeon for Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, Crestwood Hospital, The Surgery Center of Huntsville, and the Madison Surgery Center.

Dr. Richardson is certified by the American Board of Surgery.  He is also fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

He and his wife, Jan, live in Huntsville with their two children.
