The Breast Multidisciplinary Conference was initiated in April 2004 by Dr. Richardson to provide integrated and prospective treatment plans for breast patients, particularly those recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The conference is administered by Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children and meets regularly in the conference room of the Women's Pavilion. Participants include surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, the patient's primary care physician, breast nurse health practitioners, and a clinical geneticist. The meetings consist primarily of case presentations, which provide the opportunity for the various specialists to discuss and share ideas ultimately formulating optimal treatment plans for the presented patients. In addition, the conference provides an avenue for patients in the community to receive second opinions regarding potential breast cancer treatment and also serves as a continuing medical education opportunity for participating physicians.
